Javier Álvarez, UNICEF Representative in Peru

Javier Álvarez assumes the representation of UNICEF in Peru since January 29, 2023, after serving as Programme Deputy Representative in Venezuela for three and a half years. 

With 20 years of experience, he has worked in developing and complex environment countries in Latin America (Venezuela and Mexico), Asia and the Pacific (Papua New Guinea), Southeast Europe (Serbia and Republic of Kosovo), Central Asia (Afghanistan), which has allowed him to accumulate a solid knowledge of children and their rights in difficult contexts.  He has served with UN Agencies like UNICEF and UNDP, and with other international cooperation organizations, contributing to their main areas such as education, health, monitoring and evaluation, partnerships in development contexts, as well as in humanitarian response to emergency situations.

UNICEF’s Representative has a master’s degree in Public Policy Administration and International Development from the Institute of Social Studies in The Hague, and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Government from the Complutense University of Madrid.
