UNICEF’s work in Peru aims to ensure that every child and adolescent has equal opportunities to reach their full potential.
UNICEF has been in Peru since 1948, working to ensure that exclusion, discrimination and poverty are no longer factors that limit the development of millions of Peruvian children. Working with the Government, UNICEF contributes to the fulfilment of policies related to children in Peru’s National Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals.
We work at the national level and directly in some regions where inequity and social exclusion are particularly acute and the situation of children’s rights is especially vulnerable. We work with full respect for cultural diversity and with a gender focus. Our work is based on combining efforts and wills to protect the rights of Peruvian children and adolescents, together with partners and national counterparts, international cooperation agencies and other agencies of the United Nations system.
Our priorities for 2022-2026
Our country programme promotes the rights of adolescents and children, and the creation of equal opportunities for each of them – regardless of gender, ethnicity, place of residence, living conditions or other status – to reach their full potential.
- Every girl, boy and adolescent survives and thrives
- Every girl, boy and adolescent learns
- Every girl, boy and adolescent is protected
- Poverty and social protection
- Participation of citizens and the private sector
