Myanmar Landmine/ERW Incidents Information

Highlights

According to recent monitoring of landmine and explosive remnants of war (ERW) incidents during the first two months of 2023, a total of 159 casualties have been reported nationwide. This figure already represents 41% of the total casualties reported in 2022 (390 reported).

Breaking down the figures by region, Sagaing Region had the highest number of casualties, accounting for 30% of the total. Bago and Rakhine followed with 18% and 11%, respectively. The remaining regions, including Chin, Kachin, Kayah, Kayin, Magway, Mandalay, Mon, Shan, and Tanintharyi, contributed to 42% of the total casualties.

Children make up 26% of the total casualties from landmine and ERW explosions across the country. It is important to note that these figures only reflect civilian casualties.
