Gaza, Mozambique - Following severe floods across Gaza Province, UNICEF is working closely with government partners, including DNAAS, DPOP Gaza and SDPIs to deliver life‑saving WASH services to families displaced from their homes.

UNICEF’s rapid response includes the installation of water bladders, water trucking, construction of emergency latrines and bathing facilities, and the distribution of hygiene kits containing essential items. To date, 61,800 people in Guija and Chokwe have gained access to safe water through water trucking; 42,717 people have benefitted from sanitation and hygiene promotion activities, and 8,800 people have received critical WASH supplies in Gaza Province

In line with the Humanitarian–Development–Peace (HDP) Nexus, UNICEF ensures its support reaches both displaced families and host communities, easing pressure on shared resources and strengthening social cohesion during a difficult period.

Implementation is led through district and provincial authorities, reinforcing government ownership and long‑term sustainability of services. The response also leverages community volunteers, whose dedication accelerates delivery, strengthens local participation, and reduces dependency on contractors. This intervention demonstrates how emergency WASH responses, when delivered through local systems and with communities at the centre, can restore dignity, build resilience and strengthen social harmony.
