In order to strengthen the cold chain network of the Ministry of Health in the Sanitary Region No.9., the Embassy of Japan and the United Nations
Children's Fund (UNICEF) inaugurate a renovated Regional Biological Warehouse in Puerto Lempira, Gracias a Dios.
Doubling the optimal storage capacity of vaccines and reducing logistical costs for the Ministry of Health of Honduras, making efficient use of resources in the most remote areas of the country.

The total investment of the cooperation amounts to the sum of $1,851,852 and consists of:

  • 342 refrigerators for vaccine storage at Comprehensive Health Centers, Primary Health Care Units and Polyclinics (December 2022).
  • 4 refrigerated vehicles for vaccine transportation (August 2023).
  • 200 vaccine thermoses to support vaccination campaigns outside  Health Facilities (August 2023).
  • Trainings for the Health Facility personnel for handling and administrating donated equipment (in process).
  • Strengthening of data collection/analysis of COVID-19 vaccination data (July 2023).
  • Reconstruction of the Regional Vaccine Warehouse of Gracias a Dios, Puerto Lempira (February 2024).
