Breastfeeding Friendly Spaces initiative for work or study centres (IEALM)
A healthy start in life

There are numerous publications that describe breastfeeding as a key component of sustainable development and provide evidence on how breastfeeding saves thousands of lives each year. However, many women around the world do not have the support they need to breastfeed.
The Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (MINTRAB) through the Working Women's Section, with the support of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), promotes creation in work or study centres of a breastfeeding-friendly space.
To encourage more companies to join this Initiative, MINTRAB, with support from UNICEF, grants recognition to work or study centres that comply with the established parameters and guidelines of the Breastfeeding-Friendly Spaces Initiative.
The objective of the initiative is to implement breastfeeding-friendly spaces in work and study centres that allow the mother to express and preserve milk appropriately, thus helping to protect, promote and support exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months of life and continued breastfeeding for up to two years or more.
What is a friendly space?
A ‘Breastfeeding-Friendly Space’ is a comfortable, sanitary and private place, located in the work or study environment, that offers adequate conditions for the extraction and conservation of breast milk under technical safety guidelines, so that mothers can take it home and use it to feed the baby in their temporary absence.

Hello, my name is Karina Franco; I am 39 years old. I am an engineer and mother of two children, one 6 years old and the other 8 months old.
I have been working at Corporación AG for 11 years and I have seen the efforts it makes to provide the best opportunities and benefits for employees.
A very valuable initiative is that of adequate spaces for expressing breast milk, which has made this process easier for me.
Thank you, Corporación AG!
At BAC we promote inclusive and gender-equitable banking. Thanks to our BAC Women program, we provide support to professional mothers and their families with benefits for their development and comprehensive well-being, such as the possibility of practicing safe breastfeeding.
Employees and their families are the most important thing for us. For this reason, we support our employees who are mothers since their pregnancy and birth of their children, so that they can receive exclusive breastfeeding in the “Breastfeeding-Friendly Space” created for them; this prevents diseases, the baby’s growth and development improve, and the mother is more at ease if she can work and give the baby the right nutrition.
Currently 160 mothers work for us and we have benefited 68.
