Children affected
- Total population: 10,482,487 (decreased by 3.1 per cent compared to 2011 census) (2021 Population and Housing Census).
- Children aged 0-9 years: 878,491 (minus 171,346 children compared to 2011 census).
- Children and youth aged 10-19 years: 1.068.216 (minus 4.489 children and youth compared to 2011 census).
- 3.5 per cent of children up to 9 years and 4.3 per cent of children and youth from 10 to 19 years have born outside Greece (2021).
- 52 per cent of nuclear families were married couples with children, 15 per cent were single-headed families with children and 0,4 per cent were cohabitants with children (ELSTAT, 2011).
- More than 2/3 of the population live in urban areas. The two major cities are Athens (4 million) and Thessaloniki (1 million).
- Dense populations are found in the regions of Attika (36.4 per cent) and Central Macedonia (17.1 per cent) with the remaining 11 regions hosting between 6,5 per cent and 1,8 per cent of the population (2021).

Gender
- Of the total population, 51.1 per cent are female (5,356,510) and 48.9 per cent are male (5,125,977) (2021).
- Among children, about 48.5 per cent are female and 51.5 per cent male (2021).
Sub-national
- Out of the 332 total Municipalities across Greece, 142 (42.8 per cent) have Roma population while 190 (57.2 per cent) don’t have.
Other
- Muslim minority members at about 120,000 people (1,1 per cent of the total population).
- Total Roma population is estimated at 117,495 persons including about 40,000 children up to 15 years old (2021). 1/4 of the total Roma population is concentrated in the region of Attica (29,360) while Regions of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (20,129), Thessaly (16,553), Western Greece (15,080), and Central Macedonia (14,225) also accommodate big percentages of Roma population.
