Data on children

in Greece

Greece has a strong foundation in statistics, research, and evidence. However, gaps remain around disaggregated data for children to adequately inform national and sub-national planning.
Equity issues among children are not easy to identify as there is a lack of disaggregated data related to gender, nationality, ethnicity or ethnic origin, religion, disability, location of residence.
There is limited availability of data for children from Roma or refugee and migrant backgrounds, children with disabilities including children with mental health issues as well as on violence against children.

Despite the strong foundation in statistics, research, and evidence, gaps still remain around disaggregated data for children to adequately inform national and sub-national planning.

11. Recalling its general comment No. 5 (2003) and its previous recommendations (para. 20), the Committee recommends that the State party establish a central database on children with disaggregated data on all areas of the Convention and its Optional Protocols and develop indicators consistent with the Convention.

Partnerships with key stakeholders (ELSTAT, Academia, Research institutes) are required to generate evidence as well as knowledge on children to support national development plans, including the formulation and monitoring of measurable targets for children.
