Meri LiFE
A digital innovation platform for youth to lead environmental change
n India, YuWaah and UNICEF have supported the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change to develop Meri LiFE – a digital innovation platform for young people to hone their green skills, climate sensitivity and leadership towards combating climate change. The platform has been built in conjunction with Mission LiFE – announced by the Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi at the 2021 UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 26), as a movement focused on bringing individual behaviours to the forefront of the global climate change narrative.
The Meri LiFE web portal and mobile application engages all stakeholders – especially young people in undertaking low touch-high touch actions, focused on climate sensitization and green skilling across themes pertaining to energy conservation, reduction of single-use plastic, adopting sustainable food systems and more. Young people can hence identify and participate in green opportunities, record their actions, and progress towards environmental consciousness, while government functionaries, private sector representatives and civil society partners can report their green actions to enhance climate sensitization in their hyperlocal contexts.
The platform and app have seen considerable success, evidenced by over 110,000 app downloads, the involvement of 25.2 million participants, 1.5 million events, and 23 million LiFE pledges. Through a unique and innovative model, Meri LiFE has exemplified the convergence of public, private, and youth partners in advancing climate action, involving collaboration across 77 ministries and departments across the Government of India, private sector, civil society partners as well as young people themselves.
