UNICEF in Belarus signed an agreement with the Belarusian Red Cross and
Belpochta RUE on December 7 under the scope of cooperation with the Belarusian Red Cross, which was authorized to support families in crises. Thanks to this cooperation, families with children from Ukraine and the Middle East will be able to quickly and conveniently receive material assistance at any Belpochta post office in Belarus.
UNICEF in Belarus — together with its partners — continues to support people affected by the crisis in Ukraine. The key cooperation domains are: providing humanitarian aid (hygiene kits), psychosocial assistance, information support, etc.
Thanks to collaborating with the Belarusian Red Cross, over 5,000 people have received assistance, of which more than 1,400 have been children who have temporarily relocated from Ukraine. A program of targeted financial assistance was implemented in autumn with the support of the Belarusian Red Cross to prepare children for school. Parents of more than 600 boys and girls received certificates from UNICEF in Belarus to buy school supplies in specialized stores.
“Today we concluded a trilateral agreement with the permanent UNICEF Belarus partners and Belpochta, — said Dmitry Shevtsov, Secretary General of the Belarusian Red Cross. — It should be noted that such an agreement has been signed for the first time, and the agreements reached between us will significantly expand financial support to be provided to the people who came from Ukraine. This is especially relevant in winter, because many of those who apply to the Belarusian Red Cross came in the warm season, and they need winter clothes and footwear. Money allowances that they will be able to get at the Belpochta post offices in any region of the country will address this problem, of course.”
Expanding the number of partners and cooperation with
Belpochta will help improve assistance arrangements.
“Belpochta RUE, the widest national network of postal facilities having years of experience in delivering financial services, will undoubtedly become a reliable partner of the Belarusian Red Cross and UNICEF in Belarus”, emphasized Svetlana Yurkevich, General Director of Belpochta RUE. Thanks to the trilateral cooperation, targeted financial assistance for the winter (warm clothes, assistance in paying utility bills, etc.) will be organized even more conveniently.
“UNICEF has a long record of working with national postal services worldwide. They help spread vital information about disease prevention, channel money allowances to families with children in crises, and deliver other services. Belpochta has extensive experience distributing welfare payments in Belarus. We are happy that the national postal operator has become our partner”, said UNICEF Representative in Belarus Rustam Haydarov.
Families with children who need support can apply to the Belarusian Red Cross, fill out a financial assistance application and get a bank wire transfer from UNICEF at any Belpochta post office.
Belpochta branches operate even in the most remote corners of the Republic of Belarus. The company has over 2,900 branches throughout the country.
