Highlights

UNICEF is launching a new publication ‘In Pursuit of Quality Education for All ’ (2023) with analysis from 11 countries and 2 territories in the Asia and Pacific region to provide insights on education for children with disabilities by using the Washington Group/UNICEF Module on Child Functioning.

The report provides new evidence on the situation of access to education and learning for children with disabilities. It also explains how the Multiple Indicators Cluster Survey (MICS) collects data on functional difficulties, using the Child Functioning Module, a tool for data collection released by UNICEF and the Washington Group on Disability Statistics in 2016. The findings highlight the need for a two-pronged approach to provide education for the children with disabilities: first, is to reduce barriers to entry, and second, to reduce barriers to progression in education.
