About us
UNICEF does whatever it takes to help every child survive, thrive and fulfil their true potential
Our mission
UNICEF, the United Nations agency for children, works to protect the rights of every child, especially the most disadvantaged and those hardest to reach.
We provide and advocate for education, health and nutrition services. Protect children from violence and abuse. Bring clean water and sanitation to those in need. And keep them safe from climate change and disease.
The world’s largest provider of vaccines, UNICEF also runs the world’s largest humanitarian warehouse.
Before, during and after emergencies, we’re on the ground with life-saving help and hope.
Since our creation in 1946, our mandate to uphold and protect children’s rights has not wavered.
UNICEF in Asia and the Pacific
UNICEF works across 36 countries and territories in Asia and the Pacific, through 22 UNICEF country offices and dozens of field offices.
We work with all governments and partners to build and nurture social, justice and health systems that recognize children and uphold their rights.
» What we do
The regional office
UNICEF opened its very first regional office in Bangkok in 1948. Today’s regional office, which covers all of Asia and the Pacific, was established in Bangkok in 2026, building on the legacy of the former South Asia office in Kathmandu and East Asia and Pacific office in Bangkok.
The Asia-Pacific Regional Office is a hub for evidence, advocacy and partnerships for children. We coordinate with governments, public and private partners, bi- and multilateral organisations, UN agencies, national committees, civil society organisations, and multinational organisations to conduct research on the state of children and their environments; as well as to gather evidence on which policies and programmes are effective, efficient and sustainable.
The regional office is co-located with UNICEF's Centre of Excellence on Climate Resilience, which offers world-class expertise on climate resilience, environment, water and sanitation, education, health, nutrition and child protection.
