CARACAS, DECEMBER 22, 2020.- The National System of Youth and Children's Orchestras and Choirs of Venezuela, made up of more than one million boys, girls, adolescents, and young people, more than 5000 teachers and their management team, is ratified as Ambassador of Goodwill of the United Nations Children's Fund, UNICEF, in the country.

Since his appointment as Goodwill Ambassador in 2004, the El Sistema team has played an active role in the dissemination and promotion of children's rights, as do all UNICEF ambassadors worldwide; the reason why it has been ratified

“We are overjoyed to have been ratified in our condition of Goodwill Ambassador by UNICEF, to continue advancing together with this institution and to carry out our activities of social development and musical excellence in favor of children and youth. The commitment of El Sistema continues, ”said Eduardo Méndez, Executive Director of El Sistema, during the act of renewal of the appointment held virtually in a broadcast on the social networks of both institutions.

For his part, the UNICEF Representative in Venezuela, Herve Ludovic de Lys, recognized the work of El Sistema, which provides opportunities to thousands of children and adolescents through music.

“Since 2004, El Sistema has been a UNICEF National Goodwill Ambassador and has demonstrated throughout all these years its solid commitment to the most vulnerable children and adolescents. For UNICEF it is an honor to have El Sistema again as Goodwill Ambassador in Venezuela. Thank you for your commitment and for your daily work. We encourage you to never give up on promoting the rights of children and adolescents. Let's continue reimagining together a better world for each child. ”, He said.

UNICEF and El Sistema, whose governing body is the Simón Bolívar Musical Foundation, develop a joint work plan aimed at ensuring that more and more adolescents, boys, girls and adults in their families, schools, and communities know the message of the Convention on children's rights.

During 2020, El Sistema has been a key ally in promoting hygiene messages for the prevention of COVID-19, psycho-emotional support in times of quarantine, as well as promoting the participation of young people in different digital initiatives.

A selection of the Juan José Landaeta Symphony, José Francisco del Castillo Symphony, West Symphony, National Youth of Venezuela, and the Niños Cantores de Venezuela orchestras participated in the virtual act of renewal of El Sistema as UNICEF National Goodwill Ambassador.
