Routine Monitoring of the Availability and Use of Ready-to-use Therapeutic Food at the Last Mile
Options and considerations for implementing Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) End User Monitoring (EUM)
Highlights
The purpose of using End User Monitoring (EUM) instruments for Ready-to-use therapeutic foods (RUTF) supply chains is to verify that RUTF are available at the health facility and community levels, provided in the right quantities with the right instructions and correctly used by the intended beneficiaries (children with severe acute malnutrition).
A growing number of countries have been relying on EUM tools to measure the availability, quality and utilization of RUTFs in their national nutrition programmes. The results have been of critical importance to identify gaps in the last mile and guide the efforts of policy makers, project and logistics managers in their attempt to increase the effectiveness of national nutrition supply chains, remove access barriers and reach better programmatic outcome.
