In recognition of its significant role in the procurement of nutrition products for the treatment of malnutrition in children, and as part of its commitment to transparency, UNICEF makes available the prices paid for nutrition products for our international and local procurement.

This overview contains detailed price data for RUTF from suppliers from different countries from 2003 to 2025. It has been prepared following consultations with international nutrition product suppliers to UNICEF. The prices are based on UNICEF's mandate, aggregated quantities, commercial terms, reliability of forecasts, timelines of payment and a long-standing relationship with the industry.

The main points of the document:

• Prices show the weighted average prices for a carton of RUTF containing 150 sachets of 92 g each.
• The data shows fluctuations in prices over the years, with some suppliers showing a general decrease in prices, while others have more variable trends.
• Prices are shown in the currency of the contract.
• Prices include discounts and scale pricing offered to UNICEF by the suppliers, reflecting the economies of scale and negotiated terms.
• It includes only orders issued by UNICEF Supply Division to listed countries.  

RUTF is a micronutrient paste made of peanuts, sugar, milk powder, oil, vitamins and minerals used in the treatment of children suffering from severe wasting – the most dangerous form of malnutrition. 

UNICEF is the world’s major buyer of RUTF, mainly used during emergency responses, procuring approximately 80 per cent of the global supply from a highly varied network of producers based on every continent.
