Johannes Wedenig
Our representative
Johannes Wedenig commenced his position as UNICEF Representative to South Africa in September 2025.
He has also held UNICEF positions, since 1999, as head of office, for the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as in Guyana, Kosovo, Burundi and Malawi.
Prior to commencing his position in South Africa, Johannes had been with the UNICEF Regional Office for Eastern and Southern Africa, embarking on a design journey with young people in Africa that gave birth to “Yoma”.
This is a youth-centric marketplace and partnership ecosystem that matches young people’s aspirations with opportunities to make an impact, grow their talent and enhance their livelihoods. At the core of Yoma is the young person’s digital identity that enables collaboration across different parties.
Prior to UNICEF, Johannes worked with the Austrian Development Cooperation and with the European Commission. At these institutions, he worked in progressive leadership positions in both regular and emergency settings.
