For Ionuț, a six-year-old boy from the village of Lunca, Tulcea County, every day is a new struggle and a new hope.

Ionuț was born prematurely, at only 25 weeks and with a weight of 700 grams. At the maternity ward, his mother was given a few hours of hope.

"When he was born, the doctor told me he wouldn't live more than 24 hours. Then he said 48 hours, then 72... and yet he is now six years old."

He spent three months in an incubator, and since then his life has been a long journey through hospitals, operations, and therapies.

Ionuț received difficult diagnoses: spastic tetraparesis and cerebral palsy. He has a cochlear implant, which has given him back his hearing. After many medical interventions, operations, and therapies, Ionuț is beginning to utter his first syllables, and every new gesture is a victory for him and his family.

Twice a week he goes to kindergarten, where he learns to be with other children. However, he needs constant attention, as any infection could be dangerous to his health. His grandmother Stoiana, who is also his personal assistant, accompanies him everywhere he goes. Three days a week, they commute to Constanța for speech therapy and physical therapy, because in Lunca there is no pediatrician's office, speech therapist, or rehabilitation center.

However, Ionuț has people who choose not to leave him alone. Social workers have helped his family obtain the disability certificate file, find the necessary information and support, and guide them in accessing the services he needs. With each bit of help, his life becomes a little easier.

Although he has made great progress, his journey is not over. New medical interventions, other surgeries, and complex therapies lie ahead. The efforts are difficult, and resources are limited, but each therapy, each medical visit is an essential step toward a future for Ionuț.

For children like Ionuț, every step forward means months or even years of therapy, trips to specialists, and sacrifices for the family. Constant support is their only chance to continue the fight, day after day.
