Anna Riatti was appointed as UNICEF Representative to Romania starting 8 August 2022.

Mrs. Riatti has more than 23 years of experience in international cooperation of which 21 with UNICEF for the promotion and protection of rights for children and adolescents. In her different roles, she has always promoted robust partnerships and alliances with national and local level governments, UN agencies and international actors, civil society, private sector and young people.

With UNICEF she worked mainly across the Middle East, North Africa and Europe and she held several management positions in Sudan, Sri Lanka, Jordan, Iran, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Italy.

Prior to her appointment to Romania she was the Coordinator of the UNICEF Europe and Central Asia Regional Office’s Response in Italy since September 2017, working with Government and Civil Society to ensure the protection and social inclusion of children on the move and to implement the pilot phase of the European Child Guarantee.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iran she was Deputy Representative for UNICEF and worked closely with the Government in the implementation of the UNICEF Country Programmes. She spent several years with UNICEF as Emergency Specialist in the MENA Regional Office in Amman supporting Country Offices to prepare and respond to emergencies, and as field support officer and head of office for the Darfur emergency respectively in Khartoum, and El Fasher.

Prior to joining UNICEF in 2004, she worked with UNAIDS in Myanmar and served as Country Director with an INGO in Iraq.

Mrs. Riatti has a Master’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Milan.

A National of Italy, she is fluent in Italian, English and French.
