Marco Zunino is appointed UNICEF Ambassador in Peru

26 November 2014

LIMA, 26 November 2014 Surrounded by its closest family and friends, the famous actor Marco Zunino has been appointed UNICEF National Ambassador in Peru this morning.

Paul Martin, UNICEF Representative, explained that this appointment is a result of the actor’s commitment towards children. “In the recent years, he has been the voice and image of UNICEF for the Buena Onda and Un Sol para los Niños campaigns. Due to his closeness to the organisation, UNICEF has been able to observe Zunino’s sincere concern with the situation of children and his ease to connect with them.” Martin commented.

Martin said he is convinced that due to his image, Marco Zunino will contribute to bringing UNICEF’s message to Peruvians across the country.

As part of the ceremony, a video was projected describing the path of the actor since his early childhood in Puerto Rico, his participation in the programme Nubeluz, his successful participation in Broadway and his travels with UNICEF which have allowed him to understand the reality of children first hand in the indigenous Andean and Amazonian communities.

The actor was very emotional when he expressed his gratitude for the designation and he mentioned that he assumes the responsibility granted by UNICEF as a privilege which will allow him to give back to Peru all the love and professional development opportunities that he himself enjoyed.

“Thanks to UNICEF, I was able to understand realities that I could not have imagined existed before. What I do to support the work of UNICEF is small if we take into consideration everything that needs to be done in the country for our children. From now on, my commitment is to contribute to changing mentalities, to fight against indifferences and to touch the hearts of citizens to ensure that every Peruvian child can turn their dreams into reality, as I was able to do myself.”

THE FIFTH AMBASSADOR

Zunino is the fifth Peruvian to be appointed UNICEF National Ambassador in Peru. As everyone knows, the four others are the singer-songwriter Gian Marco Zignago, Chef Gastón Acurio, the singer Dina Paucar and the actress Mónica Sánchez.

The main function of the ambassadors is to use their image to mobilize the society in favour of the fulfilment of the rights granted by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the international treaty approved 25 years ago.
