Highlights

Namibia has ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) and has committed through the Education Act, (Act. No. 16 of 2001) and Child Care and Protection Act, (Act No. 3 of 2015) to strengthen educational services for children with disabilities.

The Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture (MoEAC) has prioritised the education of children with disabilities and those with other special educational needs through the implementation of the Sector Policy on Inclusive Education since 2013, with a strong focus on ensuring that children with special educational needs and those with disabilities are given the opportunity to learn and develop into responsible future citizens where they can equally contribute to national development.

This Inclusive Education Awareness Flipchart is developed on the understanding that all children can learn if provided with appropriate learning opportunities in conducive environments and with equal access to education. It provides definitions of different disabilities, possible indicators/symptoms and practical information on how teachers can use different approaches to improve the learning outcomes for
all learners.
