Highlights
This book was originally developed as part of ‘Let’s Read’ Initiative in 2006 to promote early stimulation, responsive caregiving (serve and return) and early literacy through all caregivers including but not limited to parents and grandparents. It also encourages inclusion of all young children and equal respect to boys and girls.
This Let’s Read series was widely distributed throughout Myanmar in all early child development settings and kindergartens across all primary schools in Myanmar.
In the current situation affected by COVID-19, this book is made available online to be used by more children and families to foster positive relationships through reading books and doing routines together.
Gagu is a true story about a young child who has difficulty speaking. The only word he can say is “gagu”.
It is a wonderful story about a child who has what is called resilience – he has a difficult time in his life but he does not give up – he faces his problems in a healthy way. Children learn to be resilient when families and caregivers love them, help them feel secure, allow them to feel many types of emotions and guide and support them to solve the small and large problems they face in their lives.
Every family member has ability to help their child become healthy, happy, curious and confident. This book is one tool for you to use in your everyday life to help you and your child – we know you are doing many more wonderful things already.
