As of the end of August 2026, an estimated 600,000 people, including communities in parts of Northwest Myanmar, Rakhine, Ayeyarwady and Kachin, have been affected by ongoing flooding. The floods have resulted in casualties, displaced families, damaged homes, and caused significant disruption to livelihoods and critical infrastructure, including health facilities, schools, and major highways and bridges. In addition to the ongoing flooding, Myanmar is also facing an acute watery diarrhoea (AWD) outbreak, further compounding the risks for affected communities. UNICEF Myanmar is outlining its response and funding requirements to sustain and scale up life-saving assistance for children and families before the full impact of the season unfolds.
