Mozambique advances commitments to end violence against children ahead of Manila
Consultation marked an important step in Mozambique’s preparations for the Second Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children in Manila in November 2026.
Quelimane, Mozambique - On 9 September 2026, UNICEF, the Ministry of Labour, Gender and Social Action (MTGAS) and WHO brought together around 200 participants from all 11 provinces for a National Consultation on ending violence against children.
The consultation marked an important step in Mozambique’s preparations for the Second Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children in Manila in November 2026. Participants reviewed progress on the commitments Mozambique made at the first Ministerial Conference in Bogotá in 2024, identified remaining gaps and agreed on priority actions to accelerate progress.
The meeting brought together representatives from government institutions, including MISAU, MINT, MINED and MJCR, as well as civil society organisations, development partners, children and adolescents.
Participants called for stronger parental support programmes, better access to integrated child protection services, more effective implementation of laws and policies, and increased investment in the human, financial and infrastructure resources needed to protect children.
They also highlighted the need for stronger coordination, better data systems, greater inclusion of children with disabilities, and meaningful participation of children and young people. These priorities will help ensure that Mozambique’s commitments in Manila reflect diverse voices and respond to the realities faced by children across the country.
