Maputo, Mozambique - One of Mozambique’s most popular singers, Neyma, is to be ambassador for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Mozambique until the end of 2019, the UN agency said yesterday.
UNICEF appointed the singer, recognised in Mozambique as “the queen of the Marrabenta style”, as ambassador in 2014, since when she has promoted breastfeeding and supported national efforts to prevent malaria and combat premature marriage, the fund says.
Celebrities who collaborate with UNICEF “share a commitment to using their professional prestige and influence to promote behaviour change and advocacy for children”.
UNICEF has 33 goodwill ambassadors, 11 regional ambassadors and dozens of national ambassadors working as advocates for children around the world.
I am honored to be able to continue to contribute to the work of UNICEF in Mozambique and to use my singing and energy to reach every child in the country.
