UNICEF's Core Resources provide the flexibility needed to respond rapidly to emergencies, address emerging challenges, and invest in innovative solutions that improve children's lives across Mozambique.
In 2025, flexible funding enabled UNICEF to respond quickly and adapt as needs evolved — ensuring continuity of learning for more than 20,000 children affected by floods, rapidly expanding access to safe water and hygiene services for 150,000 people, strengthening child protection systems at short notice in response to periods of unrest, and generating critical evidence to improve nutrition policies for children and adolescents. It also supported local innovations to tackle child malnutrition, developing affordable, locally sourced complementary foods to reach young children in underserved districts.
Core Resources also strengthened lifesaving care for the smallest patients, rehabilitating and equipping neonatal units in three central hospitals that together care for more than 8,000 newborns a year — so that babies can be treated close to home. These results show how flexible, unearmarked funding allows UNICEF to reach the most vulnerable children when and where support is needed most — in ways that project-tied funding alone cannot.
These results were made possible with the generous support of UNICEF's partners in the private and public sectors, including the Governments of Australia, Canada, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, the Republic of Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
