On June 20, 2025, Mozambique officially launched its new Food Security and Nutrition Policy and Strategy (PESAN 2024–2030), marking a major milestone in the country’s fight against malnutrition. The event, supported by UNICEF and the European Union, brought together government leaders, development partners, civil society, and the private sector.

Speaking on behalf of UNICEF and the Nutrition Partners Forum, Yannick Brand, UNICEF Deputy Representative, emphasized the importance of PESAN as a guiding framework for coordinated, multisectoral action. He highlighted the progress made in reducing child malnutrition over the past decade, while also acknowledging persistent challenges, especially in the country’s central and northern regions.

PESAN 2024–2030 aims to break the intergenerational cycle of malnutrition by focusing on vulnerable groups such as young children, adolescent girls, and women of reproductive age. It calls for strategic investments in health, nutrition, water and sanitation, education, and social protection.

UNICEF and partners reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Mozambique in ensuring that no child is left behind in the journey toward a healthier, more nourished future.
