At 16 years old, Nour from Wadi Ata has transformed her passion for handmade crafts into something more than a hobby—a thriving project of her own. What started as a creative activity during the Life Skills training supported by UNICEF, evolved into an opportunity for her to take initiative, make independent decisions, and build something meaningful from the ground up.

Before joining the Girls’ Life Skills Package, Nour struggled with self-expression and confidence. She often found herself overwhelmed in difficult situations, unable to articulate her thoughts or emotions. Through the sessions, she learned to manage her emotions, express herself assertively, and embrace her inner strength and determination.

“I used to cry over any situation and struggled to express my thoughts properly.  Instead, I’ve become more confident in myself, and with my determination and strength, I have many dreams I aspire to achieve.”

The Life Skills training offered by UNICEF and its partners also emphasized the importance of respect, active listening, and embracing diverse perspectives. Nour now recognizes the power of mutual respect and encourages other girls to stand up for their rights, raise awareness, and seek help when needed. “The topic that impacted me the most was the emphasis on self-worth and mutual respect between individuals. I learned the importance of listening and accepting different opinions, in the end, we are all human, equal in rights, and no one is superior to another.”

In addition to personal growth, Nour acquired critical financial literacy skills, learning how to plan, budget, and think strategically about her next steps. Encouraged by her trainers and supported by her family, she took a leap of faith and began promoting her products on Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. Initially unsure whether people would take her work seriously, she applied the lessons from the training—believing in her abilities, tackling challenges head-on, and effectively marketing her work.

Now, Nour is not just creating crafts—she is demonstrating that young girls can take charge, lead, and turn their passions into meaningful ventures. She dreams of expanding her project and inspiring other young girls to trust in their ideas and take bold steps toward their goals. “Everyone is the leader of their own path, but in this training, I stood out as the leader—I guided the way and inspired my team toward success.”

Her story serves as a powerful reminder that support, self-confidence, and decision-making skills can empower girls to turn their aspirations into reality. Through the Tailored Girls' Life Skills Package supported by UNICEF, adolescent girls are gaining the tools they need to navigate challenges, build confidence, and take initiative in their communities. More importantly, the program fosters a network of solidarity and strength, where girls uplift one another and work together toward a brighter future.

Nour’s journey exemplifies how self-belief, determination, and the right support system can empower young girls to turn their dreams into reality—one bold step at a time.
