Beyond Data: Changing reality of Children in Kosovo – MICS in Kosovo 2025

Highlights

The Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) 2025 provides comprehensive data on the situation of children, women, men and families in Kosovo. Led and implemented by the Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS), with technical support from UNICEF, MICS 2025 reflects strong government ownership and was designed and implemented in consultation with relevant institutions and stakeholders. 

As the third MICS round in Kosovo, following the 2014 and 2020 surveys, it enables progress and inequalities to be tracked over time. The findings show important improvements in child survival, early childhood education and child protection, while significant disparities persist, particularly for Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian children. 

The survey produces more than 100 indicators, including around 30 indicators related to the Sustainable Development Goals, and fills important information gaps that cannot routinely be addressed through administrative data. The evidence provides institutions, development partners, civil society, academia and other stakeholders with a common basis for identifying inequalities, informing policies and budgets, strengthening accountability and targeting investments towards children and families who are most at risk of being left behind. 

MICS 2025 included two separate surveys, covering the general population and Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities, and is based on nearly 14,000 interviews in 6,928 households.  

MICS 2025 was financed by the government of Kosovo, UNICEF, the Swiss Cooperation Office – Embassy of Switzerland in Kosovo, the United Nations Development Coordinator Office in Kosovo, and UNFPA. 

The MICS findings provides an essential evidence base for protecting the gains already achieved and accelerating progress towards ensuring that every child in Kosovo can survive, learn, be protected and thrive.
