Field visits

Executive Board members have been taking part in organized field visits to UNICEF programme countries since 1993. The destination is selected by the Bureau – in consultation with OSEB and the regional groups and with the concurrence of the concerned Government – based on the options presented by the relevant UNICEF regional and country offices. The destination of the joint field visit of the Executive Boards is agreed by the four Bureaux (UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS, UN-Women, UNICEF and WFP), in consultation with the respective secretariats.

Past Executive Board visits were organized in accordance with the field visit guidelines
(E/ICEF/2004/19) adopted by the Board in decision 2004/13.

In accordance with decision 2018/14, starting in 2019, there were two types of yearly visits: (1) a visit by members of the Executive Board of UNICEF; and (2) a joint visit by members of the Executive Boards of UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS, UNICEF, UN-Women and WFP.

The latest guidelines for field visits were prepared in 2019.
