Highlights

In 2021, the European Union Council Recommendation on Roma equality, inclusion, and participation emphasized the need to promote Roma equality, inclusion, and participation, including in education and fighting discrimination through multi-cultural awareness-raising activities and campaigns in schools. As the access of Roma children to quality, inclusive education poses challenges for many education systems across Europe, it is a key objective for equality, inclusion and participation through 2030.

The technical support is provided to the Slovak education authorities to promote a systematic and sustainable approach to eliminating education segregation for Roma children in education, and advance inclusive education. The TSI will build the capacity of stakeholders, address negative social norms and attitudes, strengthen coordination mechanisms, and support the sustainability of the project’s results through a national multisectoral, multilevel costed action plan for the education desegregation of Roma children. As such, it will contribute to the long-term development and implementation of inclusive education in line with the European Commission’s Union of Skills initiative and the European Education Area objective of ensuring the right to high-quality and inclusive education, training and lifelong learning, as enshrined in the European Pillar of Social Rights.
