What UNICEF in Bulgaria did together with friends, donors and partners for 5 years
We made strong steps to improve the lives of children
At the end of 2017, the second 5-year program of UNICEF and the government of the Republic of Bulgaria ended. Together with many partners, we made strong steps to improve the lives of children, including the most vulnerable:
–All large institutions for children with disabilities have been closed. The same goes for most institutions for children deprived of parental care.
– 2320 children up to the age of 3 found love and support in foster families. –We gave the best start to 11 000 Bulgarian children up to 3 years old and their families, with the help of the Centers for maternal and child health.
– The Family-Consultative Centers’ model, introduced by UNICEF, has supported 4600 vulnerable and poor families of children at risk.
–We have created integrated services for children who have experienced violence.
– the Child Advocacy Centers in Sofia, Montana and Shumen helped 373 children and 243 parents.
–In 35 kindergartens we have created an inclusive environment for children with special needs.
