In 2023, children faced increasing challenges, including armed conflicts, natural disasters, climate change, and political instability. UNICEF continued to support children and young people worldwide with over 17,000 staff working in more than 190 countries and territories.

Key Highlights

  • Earthquakes in Turkey and Syria: Hundreds of thousands of children and families were left homeless and without access to basic services.
  • War in Ukraine: 7.5 million children and their families have been affected by the prolonged conflict.
  • Conflict in Gaza: Nearly 6,000 children were killed in less than three months of military actions.

UNICEF's Mission

UNICEF works worldwide, including in Bulgaria, to save and improve the lives of millions of children. The organization continues to fund and support programs for the most vulnerable children, including those at risk of poverty, social exclusion, violence, and lack of access to education.

Support and Donations

In 2023, over 40,000 regular donors (UNICEF PATRONS) supported the program with monthly donations, which were crucial for achieving the results. Corporate partners and the media also played a key role.

Funds Raised

  • Total funds raised for Bulgaria: 4,463,367 BGN
    • Donations from corporate partnerships: 1,515,676 BGN
    • Donations from individual donors: 2,947,691 BGN
    • Funds for emergency situations in Ukraine and earthquakes in Turkey and Syria: 329,483 BGN

In 2023, national donations and international investments from UNICEF provided a budget of 12,607,120 BGN for children's programs in Bulgaria.
