UNICEF BULGARIA RESULTS REPORT 2025

Around the world, 2025 has been a challenging year for children. Conflicts, climate‑related disasters and shrinking humanitarian resources have placed millions of children’s lives at risk. Today, an estimated 200 million children require urgent humanitarian assistance - a stark reminder of the profound pressures facing families and communities everywhere1. In this global context, strong national systems that link education, protection and community support are essential to ensuring children can realize their rights. Here in Bulgaria, the year was also shaped by economic challenges, political changes and the continuing impact of international crises. UNICEF continued to work in partnership with national and local authorities, civil society organizations, academia, businesses and local communities to support children’s learning, safety and wellbeing. Throughout the year, I witnessed the determination of parents, the dedication of teachers, doctors, nurses, social workers, and other specialists working with children. I also witnessed the resilience of children themselves. These efforts, combined with the support of our partners and donors, enabled thousands of children and adolescents to access the support and opportunities they need to grow, learn, and thrive. This report tells the story of that collective work - a year in which essential services were expanded, systems strengthened, and more children in vulnerable situations were reached and supported. Looking ahead, we remain firmly committed to ensuring that every child in Bulgaria grows up safe, valued, supported and able to realize their rights. I am deeply grateful to all our partners for their trust, commitment and collaboration. Together, we are building systems that protect children, empower families, and create opportunities for every child and adolescent to reach their full potential. In 2026, we will continue to support the expansion of quality services for children and families and create new pathways for children and adolescents to learn, participate and lead.
