Stress busting tips for parents
A mental health expert shares how she's learned to cope
Parenting can be hard, even for experts. Psychiatrist, UNICEF mental health expert, and busy mum Shermaine shares her best stress-busting tips.
Shermaine shares that, like many of us, she thought she had it all figured out until she became a parent.
The top things she has figured out are
- Basic needs are not optional. Food, sleep and exercise are essential for one's well-being
- Do what you need to recharge. Showing your children how this helps teaches them to take care of themselves too.
- Reach out for help. Talking to people, friends, relatives or other parents, can help you sort through thoughts and feelings.
Remember, taking care of yourself isn't selfish. It's a gift to everyone you love.
