Update on UNICEF Uganda’s Sudan Ebola Virus Disease (SVD) Response

Highlights
On 26 April 2025 the Ministry of Health officially declared an end to the Sudan Ebola Virus Disease (SVD) Outbreak that was confirmed on 30th January 2025.
UNICEF commends the Government of Uganda for its leading role in successfully ending SVD outbreak, and expresses gratitude to Sweden and the United States for their contributions to UNICEF’s support to the Government led SVD response.
UNICEF is working jointly with the Government, the World Health Organization, and other partners on the 90-day/recovery plan as well as on the SVD survivors’ programme. UNICEF Representative in Uganda Dr. Robin Nandy highlights that even as Uganda marks the end of the SVD outbreak, the risk of future outbreaks remains.
UNICEF’s support to the Ugandan Government will continue, building on the recent experience towards building resilient systems for rapid awareness raising and community engagement efforts and infection prevention and control activities to prevent future outbreaks of communicable diseases and when they do occur, to respond to them expediently
