Shifra Nabatanzi, plays with her two-year-old child, an mpox survivor, at her home in Kavumba Village, Wakiso District. Shifra's three children contracted mpox, leading to the family being shunned and even stoned by their village. Her brickmaking work, their sole income, ceased. After recovering, Shifra received a UGX 135,000 (US$38) cash transfer, buying food and resuming brickmaking, enabling her to send her children back to school.
