Highlights

This budget brief examines how the 2023/24 National budget responds to the needs of the health sector, building on the recovery registered post-COVID-19 pandemic. The brief assesses the size and composition of public spending on health and highlights spending trends, efficiency, effectiveness, equity, and adequacy of immediate past spending on public health. The analysis is based on a review of key budget documents, including National Budget Framework Papers (NBFPs), Approved Budgets, Expenditure Reports where available, and Supplementary Budgets for financial years 2017/18 to 2023/24. All Figures up to 2021/2022 are based on the figures as included in the Annual Budget Performance Reports, while 2022/23 and 2023/24 are as per the Approved Budget.
