The voices of our donors
Why our supporters give
UNICEF’s work is made possible by individuals who choose to stand up for children. Their support helps us reach the most vulnerable and creates lasting change.
Real people. Real reasons. One shared commitment to every child
Angelmary Anikwe
Becoming a mother has made me even more aware of how important it is for every child to have access to care, protection, and the opportunity to thrive. That is why supporting UNICEF’s work is meaningful to me.
I believe that when people come together for children, we help create hope for families and future generations.
If my story can inspire even one person to make a difference, I am grateful to share it.
Christopher Muller
In most, if not all, cases of protracted conflicts, epidemics, famine, floods or other natural disasters, the most vulnerable in our communities are our children.
UNICEF’s cause cuts to the heart of this: helping our children. This is why I started contributing to UNICEF years ago. I realised that whenever our world suffers wars, famine, medical epidemics, or floods, there are always vulnerable persons left in the wake of such events. Even today, there is no shortage of events in South Africa and across the rest of the world that continuously place children and other vulnerable inhabitants of our planet in the crosshairs.
While we can’t solve it all or on our own, we can be part of something bigger, something that brings fundamental support to the most vulnerable in our communities: our children.
For me, supporting UNICEF means supporting a global organisation that has already undertaken studies or on-the-ground interviews, analysed data, investigated impacts, and are ready to present solutions that, while not solving all the possible roots of endangerment, can address immediate and ongoing impacts on our children. All this in a bid to gradually change the future for our children who will one day have to lead and impact the world their children will live in.
I encourage every person who can, to support UNICEF in its work by donating what is within your means and contributing to the agency’s work. I continue contributing as I'm inspired by the fact that UNICEF has a high percentage of its donations going to actual humanitarian and development work, with a smaller percentage set to address much needed administration and staffing needs.
Be part of something bigger, contribute what you can.

I am passionate about the well-being of children. When I read about what UNICEF is about, I made a conscious choice to support the mission. Education in all its entirety is the best tool that liberates a people, formally and informally. Giving does not expire for as long as we breathe. Also, I have faith in your organisation. It gives help globally.
My message to other people is that as an ocean is made up of droplets, we can build something wonderful if we band together.

Every child deserves safety, dignity, and a sense of belonging, free from fear, uncertainty, exploitation, and abuse. This belief inspired me to join efforts that help make this a reality. When we invest in children, we help build a safer, kinder, and more just world.
I believe every contribution, no matter how small, can help change a child’s story from one of fear to one of hope. Knowing that my support can help restore childhood, rebuild trust, and create new opportunities keeps me committed.
Supporting a child is one of the most meaningful expressions of our humanity, and together, we can help change a child’s life.

As an Occupational Psychologist and a South African living in the Netherlands, I have seen both the opportunities that can help individuals thrive and the challenges that can limit potential from an early age. This is one of the reasons I choose to support UNICEF.
I believe that every child deserves access to the basic foundations that enable them to grow, learn, and ultimately build fulfilling lives.
My work has shown me how experiences in childhood can shape a person's wellbeing, confidence, educational outcomes, and career opportunities later in life. When children have access to healthcare, nutrition, safety, and education, they are better positioned to develop the skills and resilience needed to contribute positively to their communities and society. Supporting children is therefore not only about addressing immediate needs, but also about investing in their long-term future.
As a South African expat, I remain deeply aware of the inequalities that exist across different parts of the world. While many children are fortunate to grow up with stability and opportunity, many others face circumstances that place significant barriers in their way. Supporting UNICEF allows me to play a small part in helping to reduce those barriers and create opportunities for children who need them most.
What this support means to me personally is hope. It is the belief that positive change is possible when individuals come together around a common purpose. Knowing that my contribution can help improve the lives of children and families gives me confidence that we can collectively make a meaningful difference.
I would encourage others to get involved because the impact of investing in children extends far beyond childhood itself. It influences future health, education, employment, wellbeing, and the strength of communities for generations to come. Even small contributions, when combined with the support of others, can create lasting change.
My message to others is simple: every child deserves the opportunity to reach their potential. By supporting organisations such as UNICEF, we can help create a future where more children are able to grow up healthy, safe, educated, and hopeful about what lies ahead.

As someone who is a donor and representative of UNICEF, I carry the hope of every child to have a future free from neglect and fear.
I dream of a world where every child/person is heard, protected, and empowered to grow with dignity and love.
I don’t know how much more I can express the warm feeling that this movement creates. I love the work UNICEF does and I hope to continue to support.

I donate because everyone deserves basic needs, no matter their background. I don’t have much, but I want the little I have to make a difference.
If we all gave a little, it would add up to a lot.

It was my desire to feed one child so I came across that UNICEF it's a good platform that I can utilize to feed that child.
