Highlights

UNICEF Sierra Leone's 2026 Budget Brief Series provides evidence-based analysis of the national budget and public spending in sectors that are critical to the well-being and development of children. Through a Public Finance for Children (PF4C) lens, the briefs assess the size, composition and trends of government budget allocations, examining the adequacy, efficiency, equity and sustainability of spending. They aim to inform policy dialogue, strengthen budget decision-making, and support advocacy for increased and more effective investment in children.

The 2026 Sierra Leone Budget Brief Series includes an Overall National Budget Brief and a Summary Brief that provide a cross-sector perspective on financing for children, complemented by sector budget briefs on Health, Nutrition, Education, Child Protection, Social Protection, Disability Inclusion, and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH). Together, the briefs highlight key financing challenges, spending priorities and opportunities to strengthen public investment, offering practical recommendations to support more equitable and effective financing for children and help ensure that every child in Sierra Leone can survive, develop and thrive.
