Highlights

We are pleased to present the 2025 Annual Report of UNICEF Sierra Leone, which reflects the progress achieved for children through strong partnerships, national leadership, and the resilience of communities across the country. The report showcases the collaborative endeavours of the Government of Sierra Leone, development partners, civil society, local communities, and young individuals united in their commitment to advancing children's rights and well-being.

Despite facing complex challenges such as economic pressures, climate-related risks, disease outbreaks and a constrained global financing environment, Sierra Leone continued to make progress in 2025. Despite these challenges, significant progress was made for children.

In collaboration with our partners, we have strengthened health systems, expanded immunisation coverage, improved access to quality education and foundational skills, enhanced protection services for vulnerable children and advanced climate-resilient water, sanitation and hygiene services. Key policy milestones, including the enactment of the Child Rights Act and Sierra Leone's first Social Protection Bill, further strengthened the foundation for sustainable progress for children.

The launch of the UNICEF Sierra Leone Country Programme 2025–2030 was an important moment in our commitment to achieving scalable, sustainable results for children. With a focus on systems strengthening, social transformation, public financing for children and community engagement, the programme aims to accelerate progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and ensuring equitable opportunities for every child.

However, many children, particularly girls, children with disabilities and those living in rural and underserved communities, continue to face significant barriers to realising their rights. UNICEF is committed to working with the government, communities, donors and partners to address these inequities and strengthen national systems that can deliver lasting change.

The achievements presented in this report demonstrate the potential of partnerships, innovation and sustained investment in children. They also serve as a reminder that our work is far from finished. By working together, we can continue to build a future in which every child in Sierra Leone survives, learns, is protected and thrives.
