Mental health challenges are a growing concern for young people around the world:

  • 1 in 7 adolescents globally live with a mental health condition.
  • Half of all mental disorders begin before the age of 14.

With investment in young people’s mental health still lagging, UNICEF’s global partnership with Spotify aims to help reduce the large gap between the mental health resources young people need and what is currently available to them. This includes the ‘On My Mind’ podcast, created with young people and based on UNICEF-led research.

The Romanian version of the UNICEF 'On My Mind' podcast on Spotify has now been launched in Romania. The eight episodes aim to improve knowledge, attitudes, practices and behaviours among young people specifically related to their mental health. This way we can reach the most vulnerable young people who face barriers in accessing traditional mental health services.

The adaptation of the episodes into Romanian benefited from the support of a group of young people in Romania, to make the content as locally relevant as possible.

Reflections from young listeners

“On My Mind is truly a safe space where you can feel understood without being trapped in your own bubble. Rather you are encouraged to step outside of it and show that you are strong by asking for help. I believe this podcast can be a great help to all young people, not just those facing difficult situations, as it focuses on the fact that it is normal to have certain emotions or feelings. That is why I highly recommend it,” said Andreea-Denisa, 16, a member of the UNICEF-supported Children’s Board in Romania.

“On My Mind creates a space where we feel calm and peaceful, allowing us to reflect on ourselves; it helps us appreciate ourselves more and gives us the courage to express ourselves and ask others for help,” said Vlad, 17, from the Children’s Board.
