About
Romania has experienced a steady increase in migration flows in recent years, gradually evolving from a country primarily of transit into an increasingly important destination for migrants and refugees. As a result, displaced and migrant populations are now more concentrated in urban areas, placing growing pressure on local public services and underscoring the central role of municipalities in ensuring access to education, healthcare, housing, and social protection. Against this backdrop, Bucharest and Timișoara illustrate two complementary urban contexts.
This project is implemented with the support of the European Commission under the Technical Support Instrument (Regulation (EU) 2021/240) and is delivered in partnership with UNICEF in six municipalities: Bialystok and Lublin (Poland), Bucharest and Timișoara (Romania), and Bratislava and Nitra (Slovakia).
