About
Significant progress has been made in improving children’s survival and well-being worldwide, with child mortality declining sharply and immunization saving millions of lives each year. Yet profound inequities remain, and global challenges such as economic instability, conflict and health crises continue to threaten these gains.
Immunization programmes reach more children than almost any other essential service, but zero-dose and under-immunized children are still being left behind. These children often face multiple deprivations that extend beyond health, making isolated interventions insufficient.
The Operational Guidance for Multisectoral Zero-Dose Strategies promotes a coordinated, cross-sector approach that links immunization with education, nutrition, water and sanitation, and other essential services. By working together across sectors, stakeholders can better reach underserved communities and ensure that every child receives not only vaccines, but the comprehensive support needed to thrive.
