Children’s Photography Exhibition opens at the National Museum in partnership with UNICEF & SABCO Media

Muscat, 21^st November, 2023 – In observance of World Children’s Day, the National Museum will be hosting 20 photographs taken by children aged 6-17 across the Sultanate

These 20 photographs are a selection of nearly a hundred received by UNICEF Oman who, in partnership with SABCO Media, ran a photography competition in October on the theme of ‘Our Oman, Our Priority’. The competition called on children to submit photos of what matters the most to them, giving them the space to showcase the environment around them from their lens. Photos were submitted by children residing in Oman from different locations all the way from Salalah to Muscat, featuring a variety of natural landscapes, animals and children. The four most popular photos, selected by fans via UNICEF Oman’s Instagram page, and one photo was selected by Sabco received prizes donated by Khimji Ramdas, with additional contributions from Shangri-La Hotel.

The exhibition opened yesterday, 20 November, which marked World Children’s Day, the anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The day presents an opportunity to highlight critical issues affecting children’s lives and supports the engagement of children and young people as advocates for their own rights.

The opening was attended by Sayyid Khalid Al Busaidi, Chairman of SABCO and H.E Sumaira Chowdhury, Representative of UNICEF Oman, in the presence of the children whose photos were on display, their families and distinguished guests, in a small observation of World Children’s Day held to commemorate the creativity of the participating children and to promote the rights of children everywhere.

"Our Oman, Our Priority" is a testament to the innate talent and boundless imagination of young minds. Through the art of photography, these budding artists have seized the opportunity to express their thoughts, emotions, and experiences, offering a glimpse into their world.

The exhibition features an array of captivating photographs, each telling a story. From vibrant landscapes to intimate moments of their surroundings, every image encapsulates the essence of childhood, offering a fresh perspective to viewers of all ages.The exhibition is open to the public in the lobby of the National Museum in Muscat, inviting visitors to witness the world through the lens of these young photographers. From November 28^th onwards, the exhibition will travel across different locations within Muscat.
