Highlights

This Standard Operational Guidance (SOG) was developed by UNICEF and the Infant and Young Child Feeding /Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition Technical Working Group. The key driver for updating of this guidance is the CSG guidelines which was developed and implemented since 2017 in some community Infant and Young Child Feeding (cIYCF) implementing areas.

There are three chapters in this CSG SOG. Chapter one explains the importance of CSG and linkage with PHC, UHC and SDGs. Chapter two outlines guidance to operationalize the CSG effectively and efficiently. There are 6 Steps for setting up and operationalize the CSG in the village. SOG 1: Advocate and Communicate, SOG 2: Form CSG, SOG 3: Build Capacity, SOG 4: Select and Implement Appropriate Interventions, SOG 5: Monitor and Provide Supportive Supervision, and SOG 6: Ensure Functioning and Sustainability of CSG. Chapter three outlines and guides the detail implementation of each intervention.

There are 13 interventions and CSG and CBHW will implement all or selected interventions based on the needs of the respective community such as Community Mobilization, IYCF counselling, Active Case Finding and Prevention and Treatment of Acute Malnutrition, Establish Referral System, Community Case Management of pneumonia and diarrhoea, WASH, Income Generation etc.
