UNICEF in Moldova is launching Laaha

UNICEF in Moldova is launching Laaha, the Virtual Safe Space (VSS) platform aiming to be a digital space where women and adolescent girls can seek support, ask questions, discover where to find help, and eventually replicate the sense of a safe social network on the platform.

Acknowledging the need for safe spaces for women and girls, UNICEF developed an online platform tailored specifically to needs of adolescent girls – Laaha, a virtual safe space. Through Laaha, UNICEF aims to provide women and girls with access to information and support with the long-term goal of establishing a secure social network through a carefully moderated user forum. Available in Ukrainian, and accessible to women and girls in Ukraine, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Moldova and Poland, Laaha offers resources on topics, such as women and girls’ bodies, health, and assistance to those who have experienced violence, including where to access relevant services. Every element of the platform was developed in consultation with women and girls to ensure that it addresses their needs effectively and that the information is relevant and easily understandable for its users.

Laaha initially provided information on gender-based violence and sexual and reproductive health. However, as it was shared with women and girls, it expanded to include contextualized information on digital literacy, financial literacy, and online safety. Additionally, specific modules on mental health in times of crisis have been added.

In addition to being accessible from home, Laaha can be utilized as a resource for Ukrainian speakers, and currently, the platform is also adapted in Romanian and Russian languages.
