"Tereza Sobolevschi” kindergarten in Ungheni has been renovated with thesupport of the European Union
Almost 350 children will have safe and comfortable conditions for their development.

Chisinau, november 2021. One of the biggest and oldest kindergarten in Ungheni - "Tereza Sobolevschi” kindergarten - has been renovated with the European Union support under the EU4Moldova: Focal-regions programme. Out of 3.3 million lei invested into the roof renovation works, 2,8 million were allocated by the European Union, the rest being provided by the Ungheni Municipality.
The More than 300 children attend the "Tereza Sobolevschi” kindergarten, which has the largest enrollment among all early childhood development institutions in the municipality. However, no capital repairs of the kindergarten have been done since 1980.
“The essence of the cooperation between the European Union and the Republic of Moldova is to improve the living conditions of the citizens of Moldova. I am proud to see another outstanding and tangible result of our support. This achievement brings direct benefits for the children, who are the future of this country, by increasing their comfort and providing them with safer and healthier conditions for their daily lives. By joining efforts with local public authorities and citizens we will improve the life of every citizen of the country! Because together we are stronger!”, said Magdalena Mueller-Uri, Head of Cooperation of the EU Delegation to the Republic of Moldova.
“When kindergartens are closed, children lose a significant social outlet. We are happy that, with the support of the European Union, more than 300 children from Ungheni will now benefit from another kindergarten - renovated for the first time in 40 years. This is one of many initiatives that will improve the quality performance and access to social services for children and adolescents, which is extremely important for a sustainable socio economic development in Ungheni, one of the two key regions supported by the European Union”, said Maha Damaj, UNICEF Moldova Country Representative.
We are very thankful to the European Union and UNICEF for the support. The roof of the kindergarten was in a very poor condition. The slate was already damaged, and even missing in some spots. It flooded inside the building during the rain. This renovation was very much needed and now our children can safely attend the facility”, said Svetlana Gaiduc, Director of „Tereza Sobolevschi” kindergarten, Ungheni Municipality, Moldova.
“Tereza Sobolevschi” kindergarten is the second preschool institution renovated with the support of the "EU4Moldova: Focal Regions" Programme support. Earlier in 2020, Delia kindergarten in Ungheni municipality was equipped with furniture, training materials and cognitive toys. The facility reopened its doors for 130 children, after being closed for more than 15 years.
The "EU4Moldova: Focal - Regions" Programme (2019-2024) supports the development of smart, inclusive and sustainable regional growth poles in Ungheni and Cahul, to bring a better quality of life and new opportunities to citizens.
The Programme has a total budget of €23 million, is financed by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
