With the Ministry of National Education, UNICEF inaugurates new facilities for Lovasoa secondary school, in Antanimora, Marovoay.
Tuesday, 8 October, 2024 – UNICEF – together with the Ministry of National Education and local authorities of the Boeny Region – inaugurated new facilities for Lovasoa secondary school in the Antanimora commune, district of Marovoay.
Over 409 students will now benefit from a multipurpose room, two buildings with two classrooms each, a director's office, a sports field, and four toilet compartments. The establishment is also equipped with around a hundred young plants to beautify the area and raise children’s awareness of environmental preservation practices.
It should be noted that the school is among the 42 educational establishments in Madagascar that have benefited from the "one student, one tree" project, focused on environmental education, which combines the training of school directors and teachers and providing various materials related to the operation of the project (greenhouse, young plants, water tank, tools) implemented by UNICEF.
These comprehensive and diverse facilities are also part of UNICEF's new construction approach. The complementarity of a pleasant school environment – which also prioritizes sports activities – and the fact of having a safe shelter for learning, indeed allows for better child development.
This educational complex addresses a significant need for the population of Marovoay – the third largest district in terms of student population in the region. Before its construction, students were spread out in primary schools on the outskirts, so that they have access to classrooms and continue their studies. This is a pilot project for the Boeny Region. In Madagascar, six other similar sized constructions have also been carried out in other areas where UNICEF works.
