The TV show "Bobok" has already become an important part of the lives of many families in Kyrgyzstan, providing support in raising children. It is broadcast on the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Corporation (NTRK), offering useful advice and inspiration for parents. The 10-minute episodes cover various topics: from breastfeeding and early learning to education and children's online safety.

At the heart of one such story is a single mother, Veronika, who moved from Osh to Bishkek with her three children: Selina (6 years), Sofia (10 years), and Alan (2 years). The new city, lack of support, and the need to independently address all the issues of raising and caring for the children made life difficult. But thanks to the "Bobok" show, Veronika found not only advice but also inspiration for change in her family.

How the program helped Veronica

The first thing that attracted Veronika to the show was the accessible and professional advice from the host, Ayzhan Kubanychbek kyzy, a pediatrician with experience. The episodes helped her understand how to properly organize the children's daily routines according to their ages, improve their nutrition, and establish an emotional connection with each of them.

One of the most important episodes was focused on psychological support for children during times of change. “I learned how to support Selina, who was having a tough time adapting to the new city. Now we talk and play together often, and I can see her starting to open up,” says Veronika.

Her eldest daughter, Sofia, faced difficulties at school due to the challenges of adolescence. “The advice from the show helped me find common ground with Sofia. Now we have more trust between us, and she shares her worries with me,” Veronika notes.

Her youngest son, Alan, who is just two years old, used to suffer from frequent colds. “In one of the episodes, I found helpful recommendations for boosting immunity. Now Alan gets sick much less often, and I feel more confident in what I’m doing,” she says.

Although Alan can’t speak yet, he always responds emotionally to his favorite moments in the show. “When the “Bobok” intro starts, he points to the screen and starts smiling. I can tell that even he enjoys watching it,” adds Veronika

The “Bebbo” App — a continuation of the show

After watching the TV program, the family began actively using the “Bebbo” app developed by UNICEF. "Bebbo" app was developed, which now includes not only advice and recommendations but also educational cartoons. In the app, Veronika discovered a wide range of helpful articles and videos about child nutrition, parenting, and health. One of the most valuable features for her was the ability to select content tailored to her children’s specific ages.

The "Bebbo" app is also useful for those who do not have children. It helps to understand the importance of child-rearing and development, and can be beneficial for future parents, grandparents, and anyone interested in child psychology and health. “The app has become a real assistant for me. It helps me keep track of each child’s development and provides practical recommendations that are easy to apply,” says Veronika.

“I like the educational games in the app. Selina, and I play together, and it brings us closer,” adds Sofia.

A Show that changes lives

The program “Bobok” not only informs but also inspires. According to the host, Kubanychbek kyzy Aizhan: “Today, television, phones, and gadgets are impossible to exclude from children’s lives. But our job is to guide their influence in the right direction, because they play a key role in upbringing.”

“To raise children properly, parents need to start with themselves. Children learn by example. Whatever a child sees, they will surely imitate,” Aizhan shares.

Veronika agrees: “Bobok not only give useful advice—it also provides emotional support. I feel more confident as a mom and know that I am able to manage any challenge.”
