The Minister of Youth, Dr. Raed Sami Al-Adwan, met today, Wednesday, with young leaders in the field of climate change who were selected as part of the Jordanian delegation participating in the 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), which will be held in Belém, Brazil, from 10 to 21 November 2025. The meeting was attended by Ms. Shairose Mawji, UNICEF Officer in Charge in Jordan, and Rand Zaiter, Senior Director of Corporate Social Responsibility at Bank al-Etihad.
Dr. Al-Adwan emphasized the ministry’s commitment to strengthening youth participation in addressing the impacts of climate change, recognizing the innovative solutions that young people provide to help confront this phenomenon and mitigate its effects. He highlighted the environmental programs implemented by the ministry in youth centers, business incubators, and entrepreneurial hubs, which offer supportive environments for youth-led climate initiatives.
Dr. Al-Adwan also praised the partnership with UNICEF, Generations for Peace, and Bank al-Etihad in implementing the “Sawn for Climate Action” program, which aims to raise environmental awareness and enhance the role of youth in shaping environmental policies.
He encouraged the participating youth to make the most of their participation in this global conference by exchanging experiences, presenting national environmental efforts, and enhancing their knowledge and skills in ways that serve environmental and climate action in Jordan.
“This year’s delegation is part of UNICEF’s ongoing commitment to empower young Jordanians as climate leaders. In partnership with the Ministry of Youth, Ministry of Environment, and with the support of Bank Al Etihad, UNICEF has enabled youth participation in COP for the past three years, providing opportunities for young people to contribute to global dialogue and amplify national experiences,” said Shairose Mawji, UNICEF’s Officer in Charge in Jordan.
The delegation members—Lymar Omar Al-Momani (21) from Aqaba Governorate, a youth leader and writer engaged in community service and environmental awareness through volunteer work; Razan Abdul-Mahdi Al-Ouran (24) from Tafileh Governorate, a visual arts graduate and volunteer designing solutions to promote environmental awareness; Madin Zaidan Al-Sharafat (22) from Mafraq Governorate, a researcher and climate advocate working on the Parliamentary Fellowship Project combining civic engagement and research; and Mohy Al-Din Amjad Al-Sharif (22) from Zarqa Governorate, a youth trainer and community leader active in empowering young people with digital, leadership, and climate action skills, expressed their happiness to represent Jordan and their commitment to sharing their experiences upon returning, with the goal of strengthening climate action concepts and offering sustainable solutions to climate challenges.
The selection process for the youth delegates followed several stages, beginning with application submissions through the Sawn for Climate Action IV program. Out of 100 participants, 51 young people applied, 41 met the participation criteria, and applications were evaluated based on communication skills, leadership abilities, climate knowledge, teamwork, innovation, social impact, and commitment to the goals of the Climate Conference. The final results led to the selection of four participants, evenly divided between males and females.
